TALKING ABOUT MUSIC

Every now and then someone will happen upon this blog or a copy of the print magazine, LOL and decide to give us some work. Mainly this revolves around us giving our expert opinion on what's cool and what isn't in the world of fashion, music and art. Anyways here are some reviews we did for electronic blogozine, a new Manchester-based magazine that may even be cooler than the SUPER SUPER.

THE CAROLINES - CHANGES
Instead of doing a write up on the Carolines or posting any of their music we're just going to publish this picture and let you make up your minds about them that way.

T-COY - CARINO (SOUL MEHKANIK MIX)
What with the original mix of this tune pretty much defining House records in the UK back in the late 80's you can't blame Soul M for not going all out Aphex on this one and sticking pretty close to the sound of the original. With a beefed up mixdown and some much needed (in my opinion) added progression using only the originals basic building blocks, this is the sort of remix that manages to bring a classic moment in music back into relevance whilst retaining enough of what we all loved about it in the first place to take us back there all over again for five-and-a-half-minutes.

SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA FEAT PHARELL WILLIAMS
808 sounds and melodies that sound like they were tapped out by a delerious 12 year old underpinned by the sort of massive 808 sounds we all can't help but love and featuring Pharrell Williams . This sounds like it probably shouldn't but probably will work and was essentially the anthem of Ibiza 2010 (FACT). With the Drum and Bass mix coming courtesy of Netsky we have the originals riff pitched up way to high to ever sound good, let alone run through the entire seven minutes of the track and a pretty standard 'liquid' Drum and bass straight sine bass but it does what it says on the tin and would certainly keep a party moving for a few minutes. Caspa's mix is a deceptively deep dubstep affair with a big synth buildup dropping into emphasis on the SUB and nothing but kicks, carrying the tunes main riff into dark dubstep territory it all ends in a three-minute mega-crescendo / cumshot. Definitely a good party piece and nowhere near as annoying as Netsky's shitty version.

BLOKHE4D - KISSES AND LIES
Blokhe4d have been making some noise for a minute now in drum and bass circles and are coming in pretty heavy with this slice of Amen and reese fueled nightmare drum and bass. A sinister piano riff serves as the main hook for the tune as dark elements build themselves into a drop that's about as hard as you can get without going full rapestep (you never go full rapestep).

KLAXONS - ECHOES
For a start I'd like to point out that when I went to check the official video for this I was almost forced to spend a few seconds watching an advert for something I didn't care about and quickly clicked to a version modularpeople had uploaded instead and I suggest you do as well if you want to be like me. I'm pretty sure these guys are way too big to care about poor Youtube viewings on their official page at this point in their careers so don't feel too bad about it. Echoes is an epic sort of track in a similar vein to Golden Skans, so similar in fact you could even say it's exactly the same but that would be cynical and hipstery'.
